Recent Green School Certification Recipients

So far this school year three Omaha schools have received the Green Education Council's Green School Certification!
 
Lothrop Magnet Center was the first metro-area school to receive the Green School Certification on November 22nd, 2010.  The school achieved recognition through its green initiative efforts, which include areas such as water use efficiency, energy efficiency, solid waste management and recycling, indoor environmental quality, and grounds and landscaping.  Lothrop hosted an awards ceremony during which the school received its “Green School” flag and students presented a video about recycling and sang environmental rap songs they had written.

Millard West High School was the second metro-area school to receive the Green School Certification on December 3rd, 2010.    The school hosted an awards ceremony during which the GEC's Gina Langel presented the "Green School" flag in front of 2,200 students.  Earlene Uhrig, a Millard West biology teacher, and the ECO-West club share a large part in earning the certification.

Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School was the third metro-area school to receive the Green School Certification on February 22nd, 2011.  Saint Cecilia's hosted an awards ceremony during which the school received a "Green School" flag and students received "Green School" congratulations tri-folds and bookmarks to color.
